Getting to El Torcal de Antequera: all the ways to reach the karst massif
The Paraje Natural El Torcal de Antequera lies in the geographical centre of Andalusia – close enough to Málaga, Granada, Sevilla and Ronda to visit as a day trip, and far enough from the coast to still breathe genuine mountain air. By car, you can reach it from Málaga in around 50 minutes. Without a car it takes a bit of planning – but it can be done.
The Torcal Alto visitor centre sits at around 1,200 metres above sea level, 14 to 15 kilometres south of Antequera. ⚠️ The A-7075 between Villanueva de la Concepción and El Torcal winds along narrow hairpin bends with potholes and tight passing spots. Motorhomes should drive especially slowly. The last three kilometres to the entrance offer spectacular views – and demand full concentration.
Parking at El Torcal
Two car parks, one shuttle – how it works
There are two parking options at El Torcal. The upper car park directly at the Torcal Alto visitor centre is free and sits at around 1,200 metres above sea level. It’s convenient, but fills up quickly. On weekends and public holidays during high season (March to May, October), it’s advisable to arrive before 9:00 am – anyone arriving at 11 am often finds no space left on fine days.
Anyone arriving too late, or finding the upper car park full, can use the lower car park on the A-7075 instead – around 3.5 km from the visitor centre. From there, the climb on foot via the Ruta Naranja is possible (approx. 3.6 km, around 270 metres of ascent, roughly 3.5 hours there and back). On certain weekends, the shuttle bus runs.
